What is 360-time lapse?

360 timelapse is simple as it sounds. A timelapse shot that moves in a full circle.Whether the duration is 20 minutes, or 6 hours, the camera will do a full 360 degree turn to create the timelapse.

What do we use?

An Emotimo TB3. A robotic piece of kit that sits on top of your tripod and rotates 360 degrees. This is a fantastic bit of equipment that creates smooth 360 timelapse shots, with the ‘shoot and move’ set up. Rather than constantly moving, the Emotimo will stop to take a photo, keeping the photograph focused.

A Canon 5D. A great, very reliable full frame camera and a variety of lenses, depending on the requirements of the shoot. The 5D has shot with us in all sorts of weather conditions, proving its toughness and reliability. With this, we can produce timelapse films that are of 4K quality. We also shoot in RAW, meaning that we have a huge amount of control on the post production.

Does weather affect the shoot?

Yes, this can happen. Shooting 360 timelapse in high winds is not always going to work! But before shooting timelapse, we will also do extensive planning, focusing on location and weather. So if the weather is not right and it is possible to do so, we will shoot on another day. We can always make this kind of shoot work for you if we are set to specific dates, so don’t worry!

Why would you want to use 360 timelapse?

It looks great! But more practically, it is great if you have an event or a project where you can put a camera in the centre, and film all the way around. This gives the audience a chance to feel like they were really there! In a similar way to 360/virtual tour photography, however this way, you can get hours a footage into a quick time lapse film.

What do we mean by motion control?

Motion Control, simply put, is the ability to move the time-lapse camera over a short distance. Whether this is over 20 minutes or 6 hours, we have the ability to perform this move. As you may have already read about on our 360 page, we can do a full 360-degree move, or we can move left, right, forwards and backwards.

So why does this matter?

Camera movement during time-lapse is not always necessary, sometimes just having a static shot will work much better than using motion control techniques or even hyperlapse. After hearing your brief and having some in depth discussion with you about the different options that we can go with, we will work out the most efficient and effective way of capturing your subject.

A camera slider. We combine the Emotimo TB3 with a digislider to create a fantastic set up that allows us to move in all directions. We can slide the camera along the slider while also panning left to right and tilting up and down.
